Weight Loss

Everyone by now knows that there are certain things that one must do or not do to keep their weight under control and those include a balanced diet, low calories and exercise. Here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind with your weight loss goal:

Weight Loss Tips:

  • Drink plenty of water:
  • Not coffee, tea or cola or anything else but pure water, get yourself a good filter or distiller, reverse osmosis units work great too.

  • Take Hot Baths:
Yes, you didn't think this would help but it does. Perfect health is perfect circulation and the more things you can do for good circulation, the better. Not only is a good hot bath relaxing, but your skin, where the fat resides, gets the blood flowing to carry out waste products. Good elimination of waste means weight loss. Just think of your blood as a train and the arteries and veins as the rail road tracks that are carrying out boxcars full of waste products. When you are trying to cool the body during a hot bath your body will shed waste. Don't be surprised if you itch a little afterward, this is a good sign that those toxins are being stirred up and removed.
  • Vegan Diet:
There has been so much research done on this that it can't go without saying. The best diet is one that does not have the saturated animal fat, high protein and high acidity in it. A high acid diet produces disease and wears out the tissues as well as robs your bones from the alkaline in them to compensate to keep the blood at a required ph level. High protein will do the same thing because an animal protein diet is very acidic. Stay away from all products with vinegar in them as these are extremely acid (ketchups, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressings, etc.). Acid foods will also make you feel hungry quicker so eat plenty of alkaline foods like cucumbers and watermelon, these will help to curb your appetite. Of course I don't have to tell you about the numerous diseases and hormones that you can get from eating animal products, a few google searches will give you more than enough information about it. Here in America, there are plenty of other foods to eat that are healthier for you, without having to eat animals. One other great tip is to stay away from all processed foods. They have additives in them that are designed to make you want to eat more of it and make you more hungry. By design, there is a reason why you "can't eat just one".
Acid and Alkaline Forming Foods

  • Low Calories:
  • The body only puts out so much energy in a day, even when exercising, so if you put more food into the body than what it can utilize, the body will store this in the liver and fat cells. Eat smaller portions and a lot of fiber foods with complex carbohydrates that will help carry you through to the next meal. Eat a little bit of fat in each meal. Fat gives you the feeling of satiety or being full. Just make sure that it's the right kind of fats. Your body probably does not get enough omega 3 fatty acids which are found in foods like flax seed, chi seed and walnuts (they look like your brain and they are good for your brian). Stay away from getting them from fish as fish is contaminated with too much mercury and PCBs. Omega 3's are essential for proper brain function and the health of your frontal lobe. If you think you have to eat a fat free diet, think again. Your body needs fats, especially the omega 3's, so if your body and brain are in desperate need of them, your body will utilize what you eat right away and they will not be stored in the fat cells. So good fats like omegas are health, bad fats like the animal saturated fats will just end up either stuck to your arteries or stored in your fat cells.

  • Exercise:
  • Exercise will help keep your metabolism working strong, even when resting. There is a great type of training that will get this achieved results faster, it's called "IT" training or Intermittent Training which is a type of training that athletes are now using to get quicker results. Basically, you do rigorous exercising such a brisk walking for a certain length of time followed by a shorter period of slower exercising such as slower walking, then back to the vigorous again.

Read some exciting news below about research being done for bone density and osteoporosis which resulted in an exciting find about weight loss. A great idea for those who have office jobs where movement is at a lower level.

Weight Loss News:

23 October 2007- New research by engineers and scientists in New York and Maine gives reason to hope for those who have a sedentary life, such as a desk job. According to a report to be published this week in the online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, imperceptible vibrations transmitted through the whole body could help prevent weight gain in mice by inhibiting the production of fat cells in their bone marrow. Staying slim may be as simple as standing still. Oh, and exercising too.

In a study led by Clinton Rubin, chair of the department of biomedical engineering at Stony Brook University, in New York, mice that stood on a vibrating platform for 15 minutes daily produced fewer fat cells than normal. The findings complicate a traditional understanding of weight loss that focuses mainly on metabolism.

Researchers have known for quite a while that mechanical signals can determine the fate of stem cells-undifferentiated cells that divide and become many different types of tissue-in bone marrow. Rubin, who calls himself a "bonehead," led the pack in understanding how bones develop long before he turned his attention to fat. "Mechanical signals are important for stem cells to decide what to be when they grow up," he says.

Bones need mechanical input in order to grow and stay strong. Studies at NASA have shown that astronauts lose 2.5 percent of their bone density each month they stay in space. On the other hand, athletes, like archers or baseball players, who selectively work one arm or leg, will grow thicker bones on that side of the body.

To solve the problem of bone loss in space, Rubin started experimenting with vibrations. At the Johnson Space Center, in Houston, volunteer test subjects endured 90 days of fully horizontal bed rest, which roughly simulates what the body goes through during zero gravity. Without having to carry the weight of the body, the skeleton loses much of its mass. So Rubin designed a vibrating platform that would recreate some of the strain of weight. For 10 minutes a day, the device gets cranked up to 30 hertz, an imperceptible level of oscillation. The vibrations run up the body through the feet, sending mechanical signals to stem cells in the bone marrow. The signals reach these cells in their adolescence, before they differentiate, and encourage them to become bone cells as opposed to blood or something else.

At some point, Rubin asked the question that led him to study fat. "We saw that we could grow bones with these signals," he says. But "if we're growing bone, what aren't we growing?" As he showed in research published this week, the answer is fat cells.

Rubin used the same device as the one in the NASA study to see if vibrations would have any effect on the weight of mice. Every day, for 15 minutes, the mice were placed on the platform, this time vibrating at 90 Hz. After 12 weeks, the mice had 27.4 percent less fat in their torsos than a control group.
